West Seventh

Named for its major thoroughfare, the West Seventh neighborhood is a true Saint Paul mosaic: solidly blue-collar with cheerful bars and imposing churches on nearly every block, but full of entrepreneurial energy too. Coffee shops catering to pierced punkers, barber shops that have been around for generations, a caf mostly staffed by alcoholics and addicts in recovery, chic salons, old-school chow mein palaces, hip tattoo parlors--and, near downtown, a cluster of bars and restaurants that have sprung up to cater to after-the-hockey-game crowds at the Xcel Energy Center.
